Vietnam, 1967. The enemy owns the jungle. Chief Ray Miller owns the river.

Chief Boatswain’s Mate Ray Miller and the crew of the patrol boat Streetwalker have one job: control the waterways of the Mekong Delta.

Then they find a village chief lashed to a bamboo frame in a tidal canal, deliberately drowned and left where everyone in his hamlet will have to see him. The message pinned to his body is more than a warning. It is an accounting.

Someone is using fear, paperwork, and the river itself to control the villages along the Bassac. He carries no weapon. He leaves almost no evidence. And every American attempt to find him puts the Vietnamese civilians trapped between both sides in greater danger.

Miller is a boat captain, not an intelligence officer. But he knows cargo, tides, boats, and men. With gunner Tex Hayes, navigator Samuel ‘Professor’ Steinberg, engineman Stan ‘Wrench’ Kowalski, and Vietnamese interpreter Duc beside him, Miller begins hunting an enemy who has learned how to hide an entire supply system in plain sight. The rice never needs to disappear. The villages themselves have become the warehouses.

The deeper Streetwalker pushes into the canals, the more dangerous the hunt becomes. Ambushes close around them. The tide becomes an enemy of its own. And when Duc is taken alive, Miller faces the kind of choice no captain wants: protect his damaged boat and wounded crew—or go back for one of his own.

Before the night is over, boats, men, and an entire harvest will be trapped between gunfire, a falling tide—

and a river on fire.
