He was his name. PAYN.
It was all his life had offered in Slavery.

But those days were long gone now, he and his brethren walked the balance of life with humans.

Their programmed job, to keep the humans alive to be able to honour their contract with their creators Earth Corp on a new world.

Patrolling and securing the mining sites to allow the humans to work and meet that obligation.

Until Earth Corp came no more. Three resupply ships not the five they'd promised and no contact as to why they’d stopped.

The humans waiting another 15 years before declaring Earth Corp were not coming back, and they were on their own.

It was a logical decision.

A trillion credit industry, Earth Corp, the corporation that created Cyborgs and the new world colonies, would never have left them abandoned unless they were no more.

And slowly, the failure of their owners to retrieve them broke the Cyborg programming. Survival at all costs, it was not logical to leave them to their fate.

Created to be super soldiers, the protectors of Earth Corps interests on and off worlds, they were made to be aggressive, dominant, possessive in nature, they were the best of their kind. Hard, brutal and decisive. The programming had been everything. It controlled them. Ordered them to do things they could not refuse. But in the colony program, they were never to harm the humans. Protect them and ensure they deliver on the precious metals and jewels, yes. Until Earth Corp came no more.

Then their base code of survival at all costs took on a new meaning and they did what was logical in this new era. They evolved. Became more. Became free.

No longer predetermined to have nothing of their own. They worked through 400 years on a new world looking for that more. They were free to finally choose their own path. Their own destiny. Free to live a life Cyborgs had never had before. And suddenly, they noticed the world around them in a different way. Logic ruled. But to survive now, they had to be more human than Cyborg.

A steep learning curve that took hundreds of years. Learning what it was to be human, to be free .... To have what humans took for granted.....

A life fulfilled. To choose that life. To have legacy. To be able to take a mate...... Was that an option for him and his men?....

He did not know. But he needed to find out. He needed data. Needed to understand the void they felt. Could a female after all this time be the answer?....

Maybe. If.... she could survive the taking....

He was PAYN, and if they had evolved to have that, he would never harm her, but he would take her to the limits of her endurance, dominate and possess her and happily make her purr and soothe the burn.....
