After years of struggling, Buster Adams suddenly has the opportunity to both strike it big and marry an heiress. All he has to do is make it to San Antonio within five days. But just as he fords the Pecos River, he stumbles across a young woman, five orphaned children, a mongrel dog, and an ill-tempered goose. To leave the band of ragamuffins all alone in the uncharted wilds of Texas is unthinkable. But Buster knows that with them in tow, he may not make it to San Antonio in time. Reluctantly, Buster agrees to take the motley gang under his wing. Together they ford treacherous rivers, dodge angry Comanches, outsmart cruel outlaws, and confront the ghostly legacy of long-dead Spaniards. Will Buster Adams lose his lifelong dream, or will he end up discovering another kind of treasure?
