Panhandle Gold

(1991)
A novel by

When hardworking cowboy Matt Sparks nearly gets shot on his ranch patrol, he is pleasantly surprised by a job offer from the gun-wielding stranger that will help him pay off the mortgage on the family spread. But his good fortune is short-lived. His boss-to-be, Ben Ross, disappears, and Ben's spoiled daughter, Jodie, isn't satisfied with Matt's efforts to track him down. She strikes out on her own - right into the arms of waiting Indians.

Luckily, Matt is close behind, and together they flee into nearby caverns, rumored to harbor hidden gold. But gold they don't find - trouble they do. Soon they are pursued by not one enemy but two: the men who have kidnapped Ben Ross, and the marauding Indians who want the white man out of their territory. Matt and Jodie have no choice but to gather their wits and weaponry and forge deeper into the earth. The longer Ben Ross is missing, the slimmer his odds of survival, and they can't rest until they know he is safe. But his rescue could come at a very high cost...
