Every animal dies at the merest touch of the red rain, a variant of Red Tide. It suddenly appeared on the West Coast and spread across the western states, moving east. Those who remained inside were spared the initial mass killing of people, birds, and animals. However, the red rain was only the beginning.

The national power grid failed after a few days. Trucks, ships, and trains ceased to move. Grocery stores were attacked by mobs of hungry people... and then it got worse.

Gangs formed to take from those who still had food. The gangs combined and grew into small armies that ravaged the empty homes for supplies, then fought each other.

More rain fell.

The main character of this book fights for survival. It ain't easy.
