Black Gondola

(2008)
A novel by

Alexandra Banks takes a gondola ride around San Diego Harbor because her room isn't ready yet when she checks into the Coronado Bay Resort with her parents. When the gondola gets back, suddenly the resort has vanished. Instead she seems to find herself back in fifteenth-century Venice. Guards drag her in front of the Doge himself. She's put on trial as a witch and thrown into the dungeon. She escapes on another gondola and ends up, paradoxically, back at the resort. A spa attendant is handing her a cell phone. Her mother is reminding her that she's late for dinner at six. She's supposed to meet her parents and their friends at the restaurant on the roof. But the spa attendant is the Doge himself!

Alexandra had better figure out what's going on here fast before she loses her head in this young adult supernatural novel by LInda Cargill.
