Roxie Springer has had a dream of a pen pal since ninth grade. Hayden runs a sports school in Jackson, Wyoming teaching skating, skiing, rock climbing, and other Rocky Mountain sports. He looks like a beaut, too. She's been fantasizing about him for three years. Now at the beginning of her senior year she gets to go see him.

She's won an orange juice contest. The shiny inner seal under the lid tells her that she and her family are the proud new owners of a bed and breakfast in Jackson. How lucky can a girl get?

As they're approaching Jackson, a snowstorm starts. It comes down hard on top of the mountain pass. They almost get stranded. At the last minute a girl named Penny comes by in a pickup truck with her dog, Pluto. She gives them a lift to their hotel in town. Roxie notices that the girl's not wearing a coat and seems to be oblivious to the cold. She also gets them to the hotel faster than would seem to be possible. After she helps them unload, Penny tells Roxie that Hayden sent her. Roxie doesn't have a chance to ask how Hayden knew she'd be there at that moment. As soon as she turns around, both Penny and Pluto have vanished.

What's going on? She'd better figure it out soon before something worse happens in this young adult thriller.
