Sondra is sitting outside her house in her father's car. He's just brought her back from dinner. He's headed back to Tucson and asks her to come live with him. She prevaricates, saying she'd like to but her Mom and Grandmother are too dependent on her. She has to continue to live with them for now.
The next day she goes out in the backyard to plant some roses. While she's digging she uncovers a gold artifact that looks like a polished metal mirror. It shimmers in the sun. Just at that moment, Stew Hoolihan comes by to deliver some peat moss. He snatches the artifact from her and examines it. She lunges at him to get it back. The dog, Wolfie, thinks it's a game. He grabs the mirror, too.
What kind of strange artifact is this? Who put it there? What does it mean? Sondra must find out before it's too late.
