Cora Bell jumps at the chance to become the reporter she's been trying to be for years. Unfortunately, it involves mountain climbing and photographing the newly established Glacier National Park. Her editor decides on a small camera, and a week is all she needs to get the job done.

Alfred McDonald is struggling to write a second novel. He's joined his cousin, Nellie Knight, and her husband, Daniel, outside Glacier National Park, and, on the way back to Montana, he spots a woman traveling alone toward the Park. She has tons of questions and is ill-equipped to journey into the park and photograph it. He sees the signs of Mountain sickness developing and warns her to drink more water.

Cora is grateful for Alfred's help in her recovery from mountain sickness, but also frustrated with him, telling her she shouldn't go on without proper preparations.

Stubborn and determined, Cora heads toward the entrance to the park.to begin her journey. She soon realizes that, as she spends the night with others hiking into the park, she is ill-equipped and sets out to find the equipment she needs. Frustrated when Alfred shows up, she cautiously agrees to his idea of going into the park together to write and photograph it with the right equipment.
