After months and months of fighting, the day had finally come. I'd signed my name on the dotted line. I was free.

I'd given up literally everything I'd accumulated during the eleven years that I'd been married, but I'd gotten what mattered most, my two beautiful children, and I knew that I would do whatever it took to give them the amazing life they truly deserved.

With the ink still wet on the papers I'd just signed, the three of us walked out of the courthouse, loaded into our packed car, and began the long drive from California to Michigan, to the very same city where I'd grown up.

The kids were so ecstatic. They'd dubbed the move ‘Our New Adventure’ and couldn't wait to experience everything, including fall and winter at our new, smaller house. They'd even made a list of every single thing they wanted to do their first year there.

As for me, I had things that I wanted, too. I wanted to rebuild my life. I wanted stability. I wanted routine. I also wanted to enjoy every bit of fall, including the changing leaves, the apple orchard and pumpkin patch, and, of course, everything pumpkin spice.

What I didn't want was a ridiculously hot neighbor, one with two kids the same age as mine, popping up to save the day every single time something went wrong. I definitely didn't want that same neighbor flirting with me, especially since he already had a beautiful wife at home.

That was one complication I'd never invite into my life. I'd been the wife that was wronged before, and I would never do that to another woman.

The problem was, the harder I pushed him away, the more often he appeared, and before I knew it, I found myself feeling like a complete fool.

Was I truly one misunderstanding away from the love I'd always dreamed of?
