The goddess Freja not only leads the Disir and the Valkyrie, she also gets first pick of half the warriors chosen in battle. So when Freja chooses Magnus anew, he has little choice but to answer her summons.
Answering that call means putting himself amongst enemies that took centuries to make, as well as Kara the tempestuous Valkyrie, his ex-lover. That's not to mention a powerful God with a grudge, and a whole new set of rules to follow and expectations to meet. Folkvang isn't exactly like Valhalla and that's going to take some adjustment. But the worst part of being called back from everyday life is the part where he leaves the lady whose heart he finally won back in Austin Texas.
