The Last Venetian was first published in 1998 as The Love Song of Lucy McBride and later updated as Twilight in Venice in 2008.

Descended from an ancient and noble line in Venice, Paolo Fortuny faces a bleak future. A former virtuoso musician and last in line to his aristocratic lineage, he is, like the once beautiful piazza he lives in, a mere shadow of his former self.

Then Lucy McBride from Australia enters his life. Young and beautiful, she dreams to play the cello like the Maestro himself. She is at first seduced by the romance of the gondolas and the maze of streets she loses herself in. But devoted to Fortuny's legend, she immerses herself in the power of his play and the physical aura that he projects.

But slowly, she finds the Maestro she worshipped nothing but an old man and with this realisation, comes a shift in the balance of their relationship. Now it is Lucy who becomes the object of an intense and dangerous passion.
