Owen Payne was just a regular, unassuming machinist from Wooster, Ohio. He punched in, did his job, took his fifteen minute lunch break, and punched out.
One thing led to another, and now he’s a mining supervisor in the Sirius star system. He thought he had it made!
He was wrong.
The worst enemy humanity had ever faced came roaring back in Epsilon Eridani. This wasn’t just any enemy. Its generals terrified the Devil. Its space fleets could turn planets into ash. And expansion was on the menu.
Sirius had no warships. Minimal defenses. Just a bunch of miners and colonists trying to make a better life for humanity. The ‘solutions’ on the table were unspeakable atrocities no one wanted to consider. But doing nothing meant Sirius would fall, with Earth being next.
Owen had an idea. A long shot. Dangerous. And stupid enough to work. He pitched it to his boss. That was mistake number one.
Mistake number two? Thinking he’d be left on the sidelines. Instead, they handed him the keys to his own plan and said, ‘Great idea. Now go make it work.’
Owen Payne wasn’t a soldier. He was just a machinist from Ohio. But now, he found himself responsible for the fate of two worlds.
All he could think was, ‘Man, I hope I don’t screw this up.’
Genre: Science Fiction
