Rescued as an infant from the smoldering ruins of an isolated village, Kaia has been raised by the remnants of a once prolific band of dragons. She has always recognized that she’s different from her adoptive family, but she never in her wildest dreams imagined the full, horrifying truth. When a handsome young human stumbles upon her mountain home, Kaia realizes she’s one of the Creator Mother’s lowly creatures of ‘mud and clay.’ It’s no wonder that a now banished dragon once tried to murder her. Her secret rendezvouses with Brand, however, are beginning to challenge the terrible things she’s been told about humans. There are also the troubling truths hidden within the old tech in the Forbidden Caverns—truths that contradict the dragon clan’s stories about themselves. But when other humans follow Brand into Kaia’s secret valley, they bring revelations more painful than anything her mother ever tried to hide from her. Brand isn’t the noble creature Kaia was starting to think he was. She has foolishly given her heart to a dragon hunter.
