The third grade talent show is fast approaching, and Cody Michaels is destined for stardomif only he can come up with an act. Being a comedian would be great, except no one thinks his jokes are very funny, and juggling proves a lot harder (and messier) than it looks. Even his parents can't offer much help since the only talents in the family are yodeling and clogging -- whatever that is. As the big day nears, the stage starts to look more menacing than glamorous. But when a birthday card provides some unexpected inspiration, Cody discovers that being behind the scenes is even more fulfilling than looking good in the spotlight. Betsy Duffey, the recipient of numerous state awards, recently campaigned with BellSouth to help promote literacy. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Ellen Thompson lives in Franklin Park, New Jersey.
