Con Law

(2025)
A novel by

There are two types of Constitutional and Civil Rights lawyers: the first are passionate believers in liberty, champions of anti-corruption, and believers in properly functioning institutions for the betterment of society. The second are mostly concerned with making a lot of money suing local governments and law enforcement who overstep their authority.

Will Shepherd is somewhere in between.

He fully believes in rights, liberty and the like, but he’s also got bills to pay. Which is why he doesn’t take hard to win First Amendment cases. But when the ACLU tabs him to handle the case of a journalist being harassed by a small town sheriff, he can’t allow himself to say no.

Will is walking into the lion’s den when he arrives in Oglethorpe county, and when he uncovers the corruption at the heart of rural Georgia politics, getting out alive may be harder than winning the case itself.
