Outlaw Deputy

A corrupt lawyer and a crooked deputy attempt to twist the law to their own ends after Powder Valley rancher Captain George Byrd is found murdered. Byrd, who had grown too powerful too fast, had been unsuccessfully urging partnership on Pat Stevens - to the consternation of Pat's crusty friends, Sam and Ezra. But when Byrd's lawyer turns up at the inquest with what he claims is a valid partnership contract between Pat and the late Captain, Pat confounds everybody by acknowledging the merger with shrewdly calculating enthusiasm...he is determined to look out for the best interests of Byrd's gentle daughter, Linda. Then Deputy Joe LaFors accuses Pat's friend Sam of murdering Byrd...The result: a fast-paced, suspenseful Western in the best Peter Field tradition.
