But the mountains shelter secrets older than either of their peoples: a silent city. A name struck from every song their ancestors ever sang. A gate sealed shut by hands desperate enough to wall away their own kin; and it has started counting down the days until someone opens it again.
To the south, an orc host gathers under a commander who understands exactly what's buried in these peaks, and means to use it. Inside Barak Ulgo's own walls, old grudges between dwarf and Skrone, and now goblin, test a peace built on nothing sturdier than a shared vow and a hard-won trust. And something vast, patient, and many-mouthed has already decided which one of them it wants.
