Something doesn't want the inhabitants of an isolated mountain town to leave

When local hermit Maul Thorndean disappears, Sheriff Joe Moorefield finds his cabin in a bewildering state. All of the surrounding trees have turned white and brittle and are leaning towards the cabin. There is blood on the floor but no sign of Maul. Usually if there is trouble in Mercy, Thorndean is the cause of it. The fact that this time he looks to be the victim is more than worrying. Who else could it be?

The dying of the wood spreads and soon the villagers are encircled by ash grey trees and limbs that don't seem to want them to leave. That's when the people begin to disappear.

As the Sheriff tries to figure out what is going on, while at the same time trying to keep his remaining people sane, it becomes very quickly clear that the trees are the least of his worries.

In a desperate race to escape, only the luckiest will survive.
