Private Inquiry Agent John Chadwick was asked to find out why Lilian Boothby left home so abruptly to take up with a half-bred music hall artist twice her age. When they vanished quickly afterhe called at their house, Chadwick thought they had a guilty secret. After he found that wealthy old Joseph Dunkerley had vanished from his London flat the evening before Lilian had left home for ever, and that both of them had been attending parties atthe half-breed's abode, Chadwick smelt murder... but where was thebody?
