Nick's day was going fine until a portal opened in the middle of a county highway and deposited a tattooed, post-apocalyptic goth girl directly in front of his Hellcat.
Grace has been running for weeks from something called the Grume — a monster that can't be killed permanently, only temporarily, and gains immunity to every weapon used against it. Then Nick killed it with Grace's crossbow.
Now the Grume is immune to yet another weapon, and it's coming after Nick and his crew.
What follows is a road trip through rural America, a very creepy quarry town, a series of increasingly creative attempts to kill something that can't be killed, and a motel night that gets complicated in multiple directions. Salma is in her Karen phase, which is not helping. Moira's magical milk is also not helping, but in a completely different and much more serious way.
Grace is exactly the kind of person who belongs on Nick's team. She just doesn't know it yet.
