Dane’s greatest achievement is Frank McBride himself. He avoids the typical "hard-drinking loner" cliché by imbuing him with such a profound back story and intellectual depth that you can't help but be compelled by his journey.
A subtle blend of all you’d expect in a good crime novel, with some unexpected and engrossing ingredients added.
The author has settled into his characters, it is as tightly plotted and gripping as its predecessor while also often being very funny. Top marks.
