A System LitRPG — low heat, no open-door content, one slow-burn thread.

The last normal thing Cole Marek did was file a bug report.

Fourteen hours into a QA pass on a game that would never ship, Cole was the kind of man who finds the crack before the player does and gets thanked by no one. Then the System came to Earth, turned survival into software — and bonded him wrong.

Not a player. An unregistered Administrator: an anomaly the System never meant to create. Cole can read the next cycle's patch notes before they go live. He can salvage the content the System has already deleted — skills, tools, a scrapped tutorial companion — things no rule-following scan can even see. Every use is an edge. Every use also ticks a Detection meter that climbs toward 100 and never resets.

Chicago has become a leveling ground of monsters, protection rackets, and Wardens who process the dead like paperwork. Cole has exactly one goal: keep his sister and her handful of survivors alive. To do it he builds a second face — a masked salvager called PROXY — and starts trading favors he can't afford, in a city where being noticed is the only thing that gets you killed.

But the corruption bleeding through the cracks is signed by someone who isn't the System. Someone editing reality from the inside. And the more Cole reads, the clearer it becomes that his anomaly isn't the first — and the last one who had it is still out there.

He has forty-one days before the System stops watching and starts acting.

Book One of the Patch Notes series. For readers of Dungeon Crawler Carl, Defiance of the Fall, and He Who Fights With Monsters: costed progression, base-building, a morally gray anti-hero, and a mystery that only deepens.

The patch notes always tell the truth. They just never tell you the price.
