(2026)(The fifth book in the S'more Than Meets the Eye Mystery series)
A Story by Rachel Darrishaw
Thirty-one true-crime podcast fans have booked Camp Do-Over for one week in July, and every one of them is here for the same reason: four people have died on these grounds, and Maddie "Sunny" Byrne was standing there for all of it. They bring a six-foot whiteboard into the Barn and work the worst weeks of her life like a crossword puzzle. They bring a bracket. By Tuesday there's a betting pool. Sunny's whole staff Roz behind the pass-through, Otis with his laminated cards, young Kip flipping boats at the dock, Winnie with a brand-new motto and a spine of rebar closes ranks around one simple rule: we didn't ask for this week, we're going to run it well, and nobody on this property is going to be treated like a story.
Then, on Thursday morning, the show's host is found at the bottom of the Barn's outside stairs. The ones with the soft third tread. The ones the groundskeeper chalked with a white X and warned the entire camp about on Monday, in front of thirty-nine witnesses. In any other week it's a four-hour accident report. In this week it's eleven hundred replies before lunch, an open homicide file, and thirty-one amateur detectives who have all already solved it and are all already wrong. Sunny is working against a countdown, a heat wave, a dead ice machine, and a camp full of people recording everything she says and the only version of the night that makes sense is the one where two people went up those stairs and one of them came down.
Genre: Cozy Mystery
