This novel is about the adventures and love affairs of four close friends during the 'fifties, as the setting moves from East Hampton to New
York to Paris. A young man whose father was in the MerchantMarine in WW II falls in love with the beautiful daughter of wealthy parents in East Hampton. Amelia says of herself, "Everything I touch turns to gin and tonic." Her friend Lucinda goes off to a kibbutz in Israel. And Billy Roamer,
the clammer, winds up as the roommate of Brandon Wyler, who is a young Oscar Wilde. Their lives are intertwined against a background of history: the Cold War, McCarthyism, the Rosenberg executions, and the Algerian war.
