(1953)
A novel by

Johnny Diamond was just a kid when his entire family was wiped out and the stock run off. He'd been away at school or he'd be dead too. Now, six years after the massacre, Johnny is heading north from his Texas ranch, hell-bent on revenge.

The murderers were thought to be Apaches, but Johnny has found a clue in the murders -- a clue that turns the theory of an Apache killing on its head. He found a copper disk that was negotiable for drinks at a bar located in Las Perdidas County, Colorado -- hardly something the Apaches would have left behind.

Once he reaches Las Perdidas County, Johnny quickly finds that he's not welcome in fact, his life isn't worth a plugged nickel. Undaunted, he investigates until the final showdown. Some will live and some will die, but Johnny will avenge the murder of his family -- or die trying.
