Silas goes on the hunt for a killer who murdered a former intelligence operative.
Was it a terrorist attack? A revenge killing? A family dispute? A gang-related hit?
The former spy warned Silas about a terrorist group operating in the Dallas area just hours before he was shot, but the victim’s family doesn’t believe the police are taking the threat seriously, so they turn to Silas and his team at Discreet Corporate Security Services to run their own investigation.
Since Silas is convinced the shooter must be connected to a terrorist group, he assigns Lillian Cole, his newest director and someone with experience in counterterrorism, to partner with him to investigate the terrorism angle, while he assigns the rest of his investigators to look for other suspects.
The next day, Silas hasmultiple suspects . . .
Silas never expected his investigators to find additional suspects, but when they present him with three other possibilities, he agrees to consider them, even though he remains convinced the killer is a member of a Hezbollah sleeper cell in the Dallas area.
The day after that, Silas has a surprising breakthrough . . .
The victim’s widow discovers two pages of cryptic notes her husband scribbled in a journal, and once Silas and Lillian decipher them, they realize the notes are clues to where they can find the terrorist group.
On that same day, Silas has to confront his feelings . . .
Even though Silas has had several opportunities to tell Lillian he’s in a relationship with Ashley Davenport, he keeps putting it off. Why? He’s not sure, but today he plans to tell her—maybe.
Two days later, Silas has to make a risky decision . . .
At a critical moment in the investigation, Silas gets a phone call that suddenly takes the case in an entirely different direction and brings him face-to-face with the killer. With lives hanging in the balance, he’s forced to make a decision. He prays it’s the right one.
