Bonfires, bangers, toffee apples … and murder. Guy Fawkes Night has arrived at Malvern View.
The residents of Malvern View Retirement Village are throwing an old-fashioned Bonfire Night for the local community, complete with sausages, parkin, toffee apples, fireworks – and enough enthusiastic helpers to ensure that nothing could possibly go wrong.
Charity Cleveland has even found herself involved with the local children, who are building Guys and collecting money for a wildlife charity while learning how to keep animals safe during the festivities. If she can also persuade them that hurling throwdowns at unsuspecting passers-by is not an essential British tradition, she’ll consider the evening a success.
But when darkness falls and the fireworks begin, things rapidly get out of hand.

And then one of the Guys turns out not to be a Guy at all.
With a dead man in a wheelbarrow and a field full of possible suspects, Charity finds herself investigating yet another murder. The victim had made more than a few enemies in the nearby village – and it seems several people at the bonfire may know rather more than they’re admitting.
