Tail between my legs, I return to my hometown of Twisted Oak Valley to discover nothing much has changed. Not the town itself with its picturesque streets too small for my big dreams, not the disappointment from my mom, and certainly not the feud between my family and the Faulkners.
One thing has changed, though. Garrett Faulkner has also returned to his roots. Not that it should matter. Except it does. Everything he does matters. Every tingle he creates beneath my skin matters. The last time I saw him, I told him exactly that, too, and what did he say? Nothing. Not a word. As much as it angers me to admit, after all this time I’m still not over it.
