The Carousel Keeps Turning

Finally escaping from her violent husband, Maddie Brown can only think about getting as far away from Barking as possible; and Richmond seems as good a place as any. It's a hot Bank Holiday in 1960 and Maddie, clutching her five-year-old daughter, follows the Richmond crowds swarming towards a fairground by the river. Following an encounter with the fair owners' warm-hearted daughter, Janice Fenner, Maddie's life is to change forever. Before long, she is happily working for the Fenners, revelling in the spirit of the fairground. But an ugly past has a habit of catching up with the present...
