Book 6 in the series...

Dov Zalinski is more determined than ever to see his mother now that he knows she is alive - though very sick - and being held on the island of Cyprus. If he can make his way to the coast, surely he will find a boat to take him there. But Israel has just declared independence, putting the nation at war, and an Arab blockade makes leaving Jerusalem nearly impossible. Nevertheless, Dov escapes. The desert has its own risks, however, and Dov finds himself traveling with some unexpected companions.

Emily Parkinson never imagined she would be back in Jerusalem, especially now that the city is under siege. Supplies are scarce, and Emily worries about feeding the orphans she and Dov helped rescue from the Old City. When Dov takes off in the middle of the night, Emily follows - only to stumble upon a secretive stranger. All three end up heading to Kibbutz Yad Shalom, where they discover an abundant supply of food. But returning to Jerusalem with the supplies may be even more dangerous than leaving!
