Schrodinger's Cat Stories
(2019)Science Fiction with Quantum Mechanics
A collection of stories by Carl Frederick
Over the course of my life as a science-fiction writer (under the name, Carl Frederick), I've written ten or so stories based on quantum mechanics. That's not surprising since in my other life (under my actual name of Carlton Frederick) I'm a theoretical physicist specializing in the foundations of quantum mechanics. I've collected some of those stories (about quantum mechanics with a little General Relativity thrown in). I did this both for the fun of it, and in the hope that readers might get a feel for the screwiness of quantum mechanics.
The stories are just that, stories. But a few of them also have a tutorial aspect, so one might use them to learn what the Schrödinger Cat Paradox is, and also what the (also paradoxical) Two-slit Experiment shows. The Two-slit Experiment in particular demonstrates that physical reality is not what we suppose. 'Reality', at least in the quantum domain, is very, very weird.
Genre: Science Fiction
