Dave P. Fisher brings back TRAVIS WALKER for his finest adventure yet!

Jim Bridger brings a wagon train to Fort Laramie, their destination the Montana Territory where gold had recently been discovered. Their intended route is over the new trail John Bozeman cut into the Powder River country. The route was a good one except it went straight through the heart of the Cheyenne and Sioux lands given to them in the Treaty of 1851, and the Indians were not pleased with the trespassers.

Bridger is reunited with his old trapping partner, Hugo Montgomery, now a scout for the Army. The army is not comfortable with Bozeman’s trail, anticipating war with the Indians if it’s used. Captain Adwell, unable to convince Bridger not to take the trail, assigns Hugo to the train to ascertain the danger of using the trail.

Two days out on the trail the train is raided by the Cheyenne, two men are wounded, half of the wagon stock is stolen, and two of the boys from the train are kidnapped. Bridger sends the wagons back toward the fort while he and Hugo go after the boys and the stolen stock.

Knowing the two of them can’t overcome fifty Cheyenne warriors, they devise a trick to scare the Cheyenne with the ghost of their old friend, Travis Walker. Kills Many Quickly is angry with them, and demands the return of the boys and stock, is how the scheme would run. However, an idea, and its implementation, are two different things. The trick was on the verge of failure, and death imminent, when an unexpected visitor shows up, and changes the course of the event.
