Travis Walker and his two sons rode into the Rocky Mountains when the number of mountain men could be counted on two hands with a few fingers left over. Travis had two loves—the mountains and his sons—then one day on the Laramie River the Cheyenne murdered the boys. Without hesitation Travis tore into the murderers’ camp and killed them all, earning him the Cheyenne name Háestóhenóéoohe – Kills Many Quickly. Over the next two years he was a terror to the Cheyenne as he wreaked his vengeance, then he abruptly left the mountains and went into seclusion in a dilapidated fort.

Two years passed before Martin Ouimette rode into the fort grounds looking for the legendary Travis Walker. Martin’s family had been murdered by a gang of outlaws that fled into the mountains. He was hunting them, but he didn’t know the mountains; he was told Travis Walker did. He needed the mountain man to help him, but Travis had no intention of leaving his self-imposed exile, until Martin put him in a position where he had to face his nightmares, fears, and desolation. In doing so, he knew he had to help Martin. Together they headed into the Rockies, and Travis Walker’s return left bigger tracks on the land and grist for the legend of a giant man in a giant land that gave no quarter to the weak.
