Is it possible for a curse to still be working after five hundred years?

Ursula Winthrop, unjustly hanged for witchcraft, cursed the very ground upon which her life was cruelly taken from her. The building later erected there became, in turn, a private house, a school, a hospice, and a church - all of which apparently fell victim to that curse.
Most recently, it housed a brothel, and someone’s murdered its madame, requiring DCI Saxby to take control of the investigation before those under him murder each other. But a shady organization is two steps ahead of him with their own agenda, and they don’t take prisoners.
The picture becomes even more obscure when investigative journalist Jeremy Giles, who seemingly discovered a link between a series of eight more suspicious deaths relating to that same land, becomes yet another murder victim.
