What if the things that grew in the field were not what they seem?
My whole life was carnival trailers and men who smelled like diesel that thought my body was another ride they could take for free.
I left all of it. Took a detasseling job on a farm with a rusted-out trailer as a home. Finally, silence.
But the corn that summer grew too tall, too fast. The farmer fed the field with GMO seeds and experimental fertilizer. The stalks swayed when there was no wind. I told myself it was nothing.
Then something stepped out of the stalks and turns out, it was also stalking me.
Eight feet of green husks and golden bumps. It was a vegetable but so much more.
It knew my name and called itself Cob, and I was to be his. He punctuated his ownership with a corn syrup covered pulsing cob and a protruding tongue not formed by nature.
He touched me, tasted me, pressed those bumpy, girthy parts into me until something inside my belly sprouted.
I didn't expect the first thing that made me feel safe in this world would be a kernel covered monster that grew out of the dirt. But, turns out being satisfied by a cob is the happily ever after this girl needed.
Held by the Cob is a short, high-heat monster romance featuring a possessive eight-foot cornstalk with a cob where it counts, a carnival runaway who finally found something worth staying planted for, and enough butter to make the whole field drip. No cliffhangers, not much plot, HUGE heat, no cheating, and an HEA with husks.
