"pick up the Pieces." The words, written in embossed lettering on a cream-colored card within a pricey thick envelope, arrive at the door of Bebe Beccera's New Jersey apartment, throwing Bebe into confusion and annoyance until she determines Pieces refers to the rock band she sang with when she was a student at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Pieces broke up after its lead soprano, Marigold Blume, vanished one night during a Beta Zeta sorority dance gig ten years ago. When Bebe learns the same sorority wants Pieces to "come home" to sing for their reunion dance, she fears returning will shatter her privacy and the walls she's built to keep from contacting her first love, band member Nic Jericho. She never imagined she could lose her life.
