(1996)
A novel by

US Marshal Ellis Stack is called in to the remote cattle town of Goose Rapids to investigate the murder of Sheriff Dan Robbins. The presence of three known outlaws seems to indicate that one of them is responsible, but matters are complicated by a feud between the two largest ranchers and by the fact that Dan Robbins had killed the youngest son of one of them. Before Ellis can answer all the questions and restore law to Goose Rapids he must face a kidnapper and murderer - and all the odds are against him.
