When Sam's father dies the farming estate is in financial trouble.Anxious to learn, Sam is not as practical as Maria, who discovers the problem, but has no solution. When Sam has a car accident, Maria's problems are suddenly much graver, and it is only with thehelp of Christian, the estate manager, that she copes. Christian has been supportive but cold and remote, and it is only late in the day that Maria realises his contribution.
