In the heart of the land Emberreach, where dragons soared freely across the expansive skies, their majestic wings casting shadows upon the lush landscapes, there existed an unspoken pact between humans and these mythical beings. Dragons, revered as ancient guardians of untold wisdom and fearsome power, were creatures that inspired awe and fear in equal measure. Yet, amidst the awe-inspiring beauty of the dragon-filled skies, a small human settlement nestled against the backdrop of towering mountains and ancient forests. For generations, the people of this enclave had heeded the ancestral warnings and kept a cautious distance from the creatures that dominated the heavens. Little did they know that within the sheltered confines of their humble village, a force was stirring; an awakening that would challenge the longstanding beliefs and beckon the arrival of an unforeseen destiny.

Humans and dragons lived mostly in harmony, each keeping to themselves in their respective lands. Few skirmishes occurred between the two races, mostly the result of misunderstanding the intentions of each other. It is said that there were once common interactions between the two races, but none live today that remember that time.

Elain was young by human standards, having just reached the age of maturity celebrated in her village. Unlike most
girls her age, she had little interest in finding someone to wed, and preferred to spend her time in nature, exploring the ancient forests that bordered her village. She knew the area better than most, but even in all her years of exploring she had yet to uncover all the secrets the forests beheld.
