Book DescriptionIf there is gold in them thar hills, it is not there for Lizzie Buchanan and her family. Her sister and brother-in-law have died trying to get rich in California, leaving Lizzie with her two young nephews. Lizzie wants to go home to Kentucky, so the boys can have a decent life far from the gold-mining towns. To do that, she needs a few lies and the help of a man who broke her young heart.

Cliff Hollister works hard bringing dreamers west on wagon trains, so he does not want to clutter up his life with Lizzie and her kids. But when she offers to pay well and shows him her skill with cards that could gain him even more gold, he agrees. What he won't admit, even to himself, is he is curious why, out of all the people he has brought west, the one he has never forgotten is pretty Lizzie.
