Dark comedy crime with bite — and a cockatoo even the villains fear.

Meet Lennie and Joe — suburban electricians by day who fix faults in the justice system at night.

Their wingman is Rawcus — a pub-raised cockatoo with a cutting turn of phrase, a bone-crunching beak, and a gift for spotting trouble around the corner.

Underworld rumours say Lennie and Joe came into possession of a fortune in terrorist cash that fell from the sky during a cargo-loading accident on a city wharf — and disappeared.

Now people carrying unusual tools are knocking on their front door.

To stay alive, the Firefly Electrics team will need to move fast — with the help of a blow-up doll named Mavis, a homemade electric chair, and a room at the Galaxy Motel.

Meanwhile, their childhood friend Pauline Gerrity runs a refuge for abused mothers and children — and one of her residents has drawn the attention of a police insider with a disturbing interest in underage girls.

They call the insider Mr Teflon.

Nothing sticks to him.

Perhaps a road trip to a remote beach house could help rewire the lawman’s soul.

Problem is, Lennie, Joe and Rawcus keep discovering that the best-laid plans of cockatoos and men rarely go to script.

‘This offbeat comic-noir novel is a little cracker… I just love this series.’
