Trenton, Alaska… just a half day's drive from the Klondike.
Summer 1897

Jewel Burnham longs to escape the small town of Trenton, Alaska. Yet, with the influx of the would-be miners checking into her family's saloon and boarding house, she could never leave her widowed mother to fend for herself. Rather, at the end of the long day, she retreats to her room to read and dream of a better life far away from the greed and danger of this latest gold rush.

Patrick (Trick) Owens is hired by the local mining company as their legal counsel. It's his job to buy out the failing miners and build up the land holdings of Juneau Investments. He's leery of the way the company does business, but not familiar enough with the area to be certain of his suspicions.

He checks into his room at the boarding house and begins to put his notes together. Intending to keep to himself, he finds the task more difficult than he anticipated when he's draw to the saloon owner's beautiful daughter.

Will the dangers facing those mining the Klondike and surrounding area affect Jewel and her family? Can Jewel's and Trick's budding relationship survive the secrets they uncover?
