Almost instantly Inspector Wittersham is on the scene, but he’s investigating an altogether different murder on board a train in, by one of those coincidences that happen every six months or so, a compartment that was locked from the inside.
Massacre at Market Middling is the maddest mashup since the last Anty Boisjoly, and with two separate mysteries come two sets of suspects each with at least one secret constituting its own red herring, radically raising the standard by which herrings are read.
