This is Not (the Beginning of) a Love Story
(2025)(The third book in the This is Not a Love Story series)
A novel by Suki Fleet
Running away from home at fifteen might have saved Julian's life, but after two years surviving on the London streets, he no longer knows what he’s living for.
When someone asks Julian to look out for a homeless boy called Romeo, a boy they think is too young and innocent to be safe, Julian agrees but knows he must keep his distance. Being Romeo’s friend can’t happen. Julian is a mess. He has nothing to offer anyone. He can barely look after himself. But one terrible night he ends up saving Romeo’s life.
Romeo doesn’t want to go to hospital. And Julian can’t take care of anyone, never mind someone so badly injured. But Lloyd’s violent gang now wants to kill them both, so Julian does the only thing he can, and helps Romeo run.
They end up in an abandoned swimming pool miles from the inner city. Slowly Romeo gets better. And Julian starts to care about him more than he knows he should. Romeo seems to believe in him, to trust him even though Julian has nothing to offer.
As the days roll into weeks, Julian realises he will do anything to keep Romeo safe...anything to try to get them off the streets even the one thing he promised himself he’d never do again.
But when you’ve got someone and something to hope for, does it really matter how bad things get?
Genre: Young Adult Romance
