(1944)
A collection of stories by

All of the writings in this book were done by Gide after the fall of France, and they represent reactions to France's travail, to problems of intense urgency. Gide adopted the form of the imaginary interview as a method of getting into French newspapers things that could not otherwise have been printed there after June 1940.
