Kim takes a job on Dartmoor, trying to hide from her unhappy past. Temporarily parted from her son, Roger, and among unfriendly country neighbours, Kim finds the loneliness of the moor threatening, especially when her new boss's girlfiend, Fiona, seems to recognize her. Again, Kim runs. But Neil, her employer, soon finds her. When Kim discovers that he, too, has a shadow in his past, she stays on at Badlake House, comes to terms with life, and finds happiness.
