Dean is graduating from college with two things: a history degree and an uncertain future. Things become even less clear when he is transported to an early modern fantasy world with game-like rules and finds himself amid another graduation ceremony, this time for a military academy as a mercenary officer.
While he hasn’t got any practical experience leading troops in battle, Dean knows everything there is to know about military history and must draw on all of his knowledge to lead his hardscrabble pikemen to victories, get upgrades, hire more units, and ultimately to command large armies.
But the path won’t be easy. The warring human principalities practice dirty warfare and dirty politics, and so will Dean if he is going to thrive. While rival human armies are dangerous, when he sees a serried block of Orc warriors for the first time, seven foot tall, musclebound, rage filled behemoths, Dean will discover what it means to be a leader of men in this game.
