The Nether World

An old man returns to London from Australia, hoping to find a son he had lost contact with. Although he has a substantial amount of money, he wishes to keep it secret until the time and circumstances are right to reveal it.
The novel explores the choices that he has to make, including whether to leave his fortune to his surviving son, or someone else he deems more worthy.
It also looks at the typical problems and shortages experienced by the poor.
