Simon Bruce is so absorbed in his work as a research scientist that he takes for granted the mothering of little Prue Hollywell, who lives in the same boarding house. When he hears that he has inherited a large fortune from a long forgotten godfather he looks on the lives as a nuisance, an interruption to his work, and even forgets to tell Prue, who is thereby cruelly hurt. But when Welsley Ashton, a broken down card sharper who formerly worked the trans Atlantic liners reads in the paper of Simon's inheritance, and his reluctance to accept it, he conveniently remembers that he is a relative of this fabulous benefactor. So Ashton, work on the sympathy of his beautiful young daughter who has been kept in ignorance of his shady past and who idolises him, suggests that she look up this reluctant millionaire Roenna does so and Simon, who has never met such a glamour girl before, falls head over heels in love with her. Prue, in love with Simon herself, sets out to rescue him from the designing minx. But things don't go as she plans.
